Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov announced in a telephone conversation yesterday evening with Kern Donfried, the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, that the Armenian side has opened fire on the civilian population of Azerbaijan during the last month.
In particular, he noted: “The fact that Armenia has regularly opened fire on Azerbaijani positions and civilian population over the past month, increased militarization along Azerbaijan’s borders, and continued mining of territories indicates that Armenia is preparing for a large-scale military provocation.”
In reality, however, although in recent weeks the media under the influence of Baku reported on cases of alleged violations of the ceasefire regime by the RA Armed Forces, in the last month, even the state departments of Azerbaijan have not reported any cases of the opening fire on the civilian population of Azerbaijan.
Throughout the last month, Azerbaijan regularly accused the Armenian side of shelling Azerbaijani military positions. Moreover, most of the statements mentioned the regions of Karvachar (Kelbajar) and Kashatagh (Lachin), where no Azerbaijani civilian population lives. The only case when Azerbaijan reported targeting a civilian object was on September 7, 2022, when a construction vehicle was reportedly damaged in Berdzor (Lachin).
Armenia has officially denied all accusations, while Azerbaijan has not provided any factual evidence to support its own claims.
Thus, the claim of Azerbaijan that the Armenian side has targeted the civilian population in the last month is false, because even the Azerbaijani side has not reported such incidents.
