On November 30, during the hearings of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the US Ambassador to Armenia and the candidate for the US Ambassador to Russia, Lynn Tracy, addressed the Armenian-American and Armenian-Russian relations.
A number of Armenian media outlets, in particular, 1in.am, Factor.am, 24news.am and others covering this speech, claimed that Tracy said the following:
“The U.S. has a valuable role to play in resolving the tenuous relationship between Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the centerpiece of the conflict of course is the disputed territories and the need to find a stable solution that protects the rights of Armenians and Azeris living there. With Russia pulling back in the region, there is now a limited opportunity for the U.S. to take a stronger role and help end the bloodshed.”
Studying the hearings of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Fact Investigation Platform revealed that the author of the aforementioned words was not Tracy, but Senator Jim Risch .
Thus, a number of Armenian websites attributed to Tracy, as a US diplomatic representative, ideas that were voiced by a representative of that country’s legislative representative.
