Lapshin is Not on Interpol’s Wanted List. Lukashenko Lied

In his statement on the extradition of famous blogger Alexander Lapshin, the president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Lapshin was detained in Belarus in accordance with an Interpol decision, which, however, has nothing to do with reality.

“Azerbaijan appealed not to us, but to Interpol. We detained him in accordance with Interpol’s decision and must hand him over to Azerbaijan in accordance with all laws and regulations,” Lukashenko said at a meeting with representatives of the media and public on February 3rd.

However, as the search on the official website of Interpol indicates, there are no international references about Lapshin, as well as no information demonstrating that he had ever been on Interpol’s wanted list.

This information was also confirmed by the RA Police Public Relations and Information Department Head Ashot Aharonyan, who also stated that Lapshin was not wanted by Interpol.

Therefore, it turns out that Alexander Lukashenko, at the meeting with representatives of the media and public, has misinformed not only those present, but also all the interested parties on blogger’s case.
