During the “Prognosis” TV program on November 19, “Zvezda” federal TV station belonging to Russia’s Ministry of Defense addressed the new EU-Armenia agreement to be signed at the end of November, claiming that Armenia is going to join the European Union.
“They are going to join the European Union… What do you think which country we are talking about? You will get a completely unexpected answer… It is Armenia. Yes, the Armenia which is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, member of CSTO, our main ally in Transcaucasia”, the program host, famous Russian political analyst Veronika Krasheninnikova stated [from 20։20].
The truth is Armenia is going to sign the “Comprehensive and Enhanced Cooperation Agreement” with the EU within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Brussels on November 24. The pre-signed text of the agreement was published in October.
The new partnership agreement envisages cooperation in the sectors of economy, energy, environment, and etc., as well as a political dialogue between the EU and Armenia. But the agreement does not envisage Armenia’s membership in the European Union.
Apart from distorting information on the format of EU-Armenia cooperation, using the anti-Ukrainian rhetoric of the Russian propaganda, “Zvezda” TV station reports that “Yerevan glorifies fascism associates” just like Ukraine does. They justify this claim by the fact of installation of Garegin Ter-Harutyunyan’s (Njdeh) statue in Yerevan. The program analyst calls Njdeh “Armenian Bandera”. She also addressed the Republican Party of Armenia, by comparing the logo of the party with the symbols of the Third Reich.
By the way, the TV host Veronika Krasheninnikova, who made these fake claims, is not an ordinary TV host. She is one of the most active engines of Russian propaganda, adviser to the Director of Kremlin’s “Rossiya Segodnya” information agency Dmitri Kiselyov, as well as member of the Supreme Council of Russia’s ruling party Yedinaya Rossiya.
