News about the $250 billion contract between Iran, Armenia and India is not credible

13:07, 25 Apr, 2023

FALSE

On April 24, information was circulated on the Facebook social network that the first agreement on the annual turnover of goods worth USD 250 billion through the North-South corridor was signed between India, Iran and Armenia.

The post was shared by several users including the former Chairperson of the Public Council, Styopa Safaryan. Moreover, he highlighted that there was no reference to the information on signing yet, however there had been reliable information about the ministerial meeting of the three countries a few days before.

In fact, the information about the turnover of USD 250 billion is not reliable. No official representative from the 3 countries has confirmed the news.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia reported on April 20 that the first political consultations in a trilateral format between the Ministries of the Republic of Armenia, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of India were held in Yerevan.

“During the meeting, the sides particularly discussed economic issues and regional communication channels, outlined the prospects of deepening cultural and people to people contacts as well as trilateral cooperation in various fields. The sides agreed to continue consultations in a trilateral format,” the statement reads.

It does not contain any information on any document signed between the three countries. In fact, as of now, the information about the signing of the agreement between India, Iran and Armenia has no grounds.
