The “Secret” Luxurious Life of the National Security Service

16:49, 31 Aug, 2017

On June 22, the National Security Service (NSS) made a number of lavish purchases. Paying 764.000 AMD, they purchased 4 souvenir glasses from “ES Silver” company. The price of one glass in the company’s shop ranges between 180 and 230 thousand AMD.

One day later, on June 23, the NSS purchased a souvenir barrel under “procurement of representative services”, for the purposes of which 499,800 AMD was transferred from the state budget.

We tried to find out who the aforementioned “dishes” are envisaged for. In response to our enquiry, we were informed that the information shall not be published (it has a relevant confidentiality notice).

We can only make a guess on why the NSS keeps the gift recipients secret. At that time, the Border Police Delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia was in Armenia. The NSS transferred 622.000 AMD to “Onira Club Hotel” (the same Paravon Entertainment Center). The delegation consisted of 5 persons. The procured “dishes” were also 5 in number, namely 4 glasses and one barrel.

Thus, the meeting of NSS representatives with their Georgian colleagues cost the Armenian taxpayers 1.88 million AMD.

Earlier, on June 6-8, the heads of operative and intelligence bodies of the border agencies of CIS member states were in Armenia. Within the framework of the two-day visit, the delegation was accommodated at “Ani Plaza” Hotel. The NSS paid 1,787,600 AMD to the hotel, and 858.000 AMD for the dinner at “Ureni restoran” restaurant complex. Moreover, judging from the number of reserved rooms in the hotel, the delegation consisted of 14 people, while the dinner was organized for 69 people.

Thus, the Armenian taxpayers paid 2.6 million AMD for the three-day visit of the heads of operative and intelligence bodies of the CIS border agencies to Armenia.

It results that only in June of this year the NSS “secretly” spent around 4.5 million AMD for representative services.
