How does media propaganda work?

Time is one of the most expensive and lacking factors in modern world. “I have little time”, “Time is not enough” has become the most frequently used words in society. A number of phenomena stem from this reality, those phenomena have a negative impact on us.

A large number of people are receiving information about their city, country or the world from the internet by using preferred prestigious media. And since time is limited, people often read only the titles of publications, without clicking on the link or verifying the authenticity of the information provided.

Realizing this reality, a number of prestigious propagandistic media use simple but very effective methods. The Russian press started using one of them during 2008 Russian-Georgian war, and today it “attacks” Ukraine.

When reading today’s news by Russian news agency Regnum, we will meet a material titled “A report on Poroshenko assassination attempt received”. But by clicking on the article link, we appear on an unknown website news.nnn.ru, It is visible even to the naked eye of a non-specialist that it’s fake.

Moreover, this website is just a mediator between Regnum and Vesti.ru. By clicking on news.nnn.ruwe appear on  the website of Russian Vesti news agency.

In the material titled “A woman’s mechanical voice reported about Poroshenko assassination” published two months ago the website, quoting the Ukrainian National Security Service, stated that there were two attempts of Poroshenko’s assassination during his presidency years. There is even an active link in the material, which seems to take to the Ukrainian National Security Service statement.

By clicking the link, we appear on the Vesti.ru again, however, instead of details of the assassination attempt, the site states that allegedly 76 Ukrainian companies belong to Poroshenko.

Ironically by clicking the link we again appear on the main page of Vesti.ru website in the section referring to Ukraine.

It is natural that an ordinary citizen does not have enough knowledge or sufficient time to check the authenticity of all the news delivered to him. Moreover, as we have mentioned in the beginning, due to lack of time many people read only titles thus becoming a consumer of fraudulent information.
