The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs Blames the Istanbul Explosion on Kurdish PKK: Rumors about the Armenian Traces are Groundless

15:17, 14 Nov, 2022

FALSE

On November 13, an explosion took place in the center of Istanbul, Turkey, as a result of which, according to official reports, 6 people died and 81 were injured.

After the explosion, information was circulated in some telegram channels that the terrorist attack was authored by the Armenian organization ASALA (Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia) which operated from 1975 to 1997 and currently does not actually exist.

In particular, the Russian-language Nash Regnum Telegram channel with 31,000 followers reported that “ASALA terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the explosion.”

The news was also circulated on Azerbaijani Telegram channels and Twitter.

Later, however, it became known that the Turkish special services arrested the author of the operation. According to Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu, the terror order came from Ayn al-Arab in northern Syria where the Syrian headquarters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is located.

PKK has been recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, USA, EU and a number of countries.

Later, the same Telegram channels reported that the author of the terrorist attack is a Kurdish lawyer who is a member of the PKK banned in Turkey.

Thus, the explosion in Istanbul has no relation to the non-existent ASALA organization. According to Turkish law enforcement agencies, its author is a member of the PKK.
