On September 13,2022, the armed forces of Azerbaijan launched an attack in several directions across the eastern border of the RA, targeting also peaceful settlements.
The same day Radar Armenia and 1in.am news websites published the statement of the US State Department spokesman Ned Price, which read: “The United States is deeply concerned by and is closely following reports of intensive fighting around Nagorno-Karabakh, including casualties and the loss of life,”
The Fact Investigation Platform found out that Price’s statement was in fact old. It was made on August 4 and referred to the attack of Azerbaijani forces in Artsakh from two directions in early August.
In fact, news websites reposted an old statement of a State Department official, attributing it to the latest Azerbaijani attack on the RA borders.
At the same time, the statement of the Secretary of State Anthony Blinken regarding the latest Azerbaijani attack was published on the website of the US State Department.
In the statement, Anthony Blinken expresses deep concern about the active military operations on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, as well as the targeting of the settlements and civilian infrastructures inside Armenia. The US Secretary of State also calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the OSCE, Michael Carpenter, stated that military operations along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and attacks on civilian objects in Armenia are unacceptable and should be stopped immediately.
“There is no military solution to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh; diplomacy must prevail,” Ambassador Carpenter wrote on Twitter.
