A Turkish website called Oda TV published an article on October 14, claiming that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan “declared about handing over a part of Syunik to Azerbaijan.”
The website claimed that Armenia “will cede 1,200 square kilometers of territory” from Syunik, and that “Türkiye would also receive certain territory near the Margara border checkpoint as a small buffer zone.”
Oda TV – Turkish-language yellow press
The Oda TV website is a representative of the opposition “yellow”* press in Türkiye known for its scandalous publications, which, however, are not evidence-based and generally do not cite reliable sources.
The above-mentioned publication about Armenia lacks references to reliable sources, as well as contains factual errors.
In particular, the website claims that the Prime Minister of Armenia personally announced the transfer of Armenian territories to Azerbaijan and Türkiye, while Nikol Pashinyan has never made such a statement.
Baku Haqqin.az and Armenian Alpha News spread fake news
The news was reprinted by the Baku propaganda resource Haqqin.az failing to refer to the original source, but to another Turkish “yellow” resource called YeniAkit propagating Islamist views, which reprinted the same article a day after Oda TV, on October 15.
The Turkish falsehood also appeared in the Armenian media domain. The first to bring it there was the media outlet Alpha News, on October 15.
The Turkish fake news was also spread by the websites 7or.am and Zham.am on October 16, making reference to Yeni Akit.
It is noteworthy that although the presenter of the article notes that Oda TV is “yellow” press that publishes scandalous materials, she also adds that “some of the news on the website, however, later turn out to be true.”
Presenting the content of the article in full, the commentator notes that it “at least” demonstrates Türkiye’s intentions and ambitions.
It should be noted that while bringing this information from the Turkish website to the Armenian media field without citing any source, Alpha News also failed to cover the comments and clarifications by official Armenian sources.
Furthermore, on October 17, Alpha News built false theses and analyses on the basis of information that it had earlier qualified as “yellow.”
In one of the broadcasts, the commentator presents the transfer of the neutral zone near Margara and part of Syunik within the scope of official Baku’s and Ankara’s demands and sets forth a hypothesis that the documents signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 in Washington contain a secret annex.
Today, October 17, the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary also refuted the information, qualifying it as a manifestation of the hybrid war waged against the Republic of Armenia.
“I officially declare that the mentioned publication is disinformation, has no factual or legal basis and constitutes a component of the hybrid war waged against the Republic of Armenia,” Nazeli Baghdasaryan noted.
Thus, the groundless information by Turkish “yellow” press was circulated by Azerbaijani propaganda resources and some Armenian media outlets.
